The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered two FN FAL rifles and live ammunition during a raid on a suspected bandits’ hideout in Dajin Madam Forest, located along the border between Plateau and Bauchi states.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
Sanusi said the recovery followed an intensive investigation into the arrest of four suspects accused of supplying arms, ammunition and illicit substances to bandits. The suspects were earlier paraded by the command on July 11, 2026.
According to the police commissioner, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out a follow-up operation on August 2 after receiving credible intelligence from one of the suspects, Musbahu Ishaq, which led security personnel to the forest hideout.
He explained that investigations identified Dajin Madam Forest as one of the operational bases of the criminal syndicate, where a thorough search uncovered two FN FAL rifles and live ammunition concealed within the camp.
Further investigation, Sanusi said, revealed that Musbahu Ishaq allegedly obtained the weapons from one Rabiu Hassan and supplied them to a suspected bandit kingpin, Baba Alhaji Sanusi, who is currently on the run and believed to be hiding in a forest in Katsina State.
The police commissioner noted that efforts had been intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional weapons linked to the criminal network.
He disclosed that the four suspects already in custody would soon be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Sanusi reaffirmed the FCT Police Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing, assuring residents that sustained operations would continue until all members of the syndicate were arrested and brought to justice.
He also appealed to members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency communication channels, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against violent crime.
