The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has warned staff against examination malpractice, result manipulation, corruption and other practices capable of undermining the integrity of the institution.
Bassey issued the warning during separate interactive sessions with students and staff of the university’s Okuku Campus, where she also addressed issues concerning academic standards, welfare and the development of the campus.
Addressing staff, the Vice Chancellor said students must remain at the centre of the university’s activities, stressing that their academic development and welfare must be given priority.
She said any staff member found compromising academic standards or tampering with students’ academic records would face disciplinary action in accordance with university regulations.
Bassey urged staff to uphold professional ethics, remain committed to their responsibilities and promote unity and teamwork in the interest of the university.
She also assured the staff that management would continue to improve working conditions and provide the necessary support to enable them perform their duties effectively.
At the students’ interactive session, representatives of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) presented concerns bordering on the academic experience, welfare and facilities at the Okuku Campus.
Responding, Bassey said management was already aware of some of the issues raised and had taken steps to address them, assuring the students that available resources would continue to be deployed to improve their learning environment.
She explained that direct engagement with students was important in helping management understand their specific challenges and determine areas requiring further intervention.
The Vice Chancellor appealed to the students to appreciate ongoing interventions while continuing to communicate their concerns constructively, stressing the need for mutual respect, patience and dialogue.
Staff members who responded to the engagement commended the administration for what they described as equitable distribution of resources and opportunities across the university’s campuses in Calabar, Ogoja and Okuku.
They also cited professional development and training opportunities made available to eligible staff, saying the initiatives had contributed to capacity building and professional growth across the institution.
