Large number of thugs appeared on some roads in Port Harcourt and other major towns in River State and blocked vehicles bearing the logo of the major opposition party in the country, African Democratic Congress, ADC, from traveling to Ubima, hometown of former governor of the state and one of the key leaders of ADC.
The incident happened again on Friday morning when they mounted a roadblock on the Omuawa-Ubima Road, stopping every bus with an ADC banner from entering Ubima.
Residents told journalists that the intervention from security operatives mobilised to the area restored normalcy and chased the hoodlums away.
A day before, they had set ablaze the secretariat if ADC in Ubima Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, when Rotimi Amaechi was billed to visit the place to validate his party registrations.
The political thugs were also said to have attacked the minister’s community with heavy firepower, shooting sporadically in the area.
Amaechi is one of the leaders of the coalition ADC, working to wrestle power from President Bola Tinubu in 2027 general election.
Police spokesperson in Rivers State, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko said she will rest later.
