The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Cross River State, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, has concluded his consultation tour of the Northern Senatorial District with a visit to Obanliku Local Government Area.
Archibong was received at the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Obanliku, His Royal Majesty Uchua Amos Item, who welcomed him alongside members of his Chiefs-in-Council.
The monarch commended Archibong’s contributions to education and human capital development, particularly the establishment of Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo.
He described the university proprietor as a leader whose activities in the education sector had contributed to the development of the state, while offering prayers for wisdom and guidance as he pursues his political ambition.
From the palace, Archibong proceeded to the PDP secretariat in Obanliku, where he met with party members, community leaders, women and youth groups.
Speaking during the visit, Archibong thanked the traditional ruler and residents for the reception, promising to prioritise the development of Obanliku if elected governor.
He identified infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, border trade and youth empowerment as areas that would receive attention under his proposed administration.
“Obanliku will never be an afterthought. We will build roads that connect our farms to markets, revive tourism in the hills, and ensure our young people have skills and jobs,” he said.
The visit also witnessed the formal reception of a number of political supporters said to have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties to the PDP.
The defectors, according to the PDP, were drawn from different wards in the local government area.
Receiving the new members, the PDP State Chairman, Barr. Venatius Ikem, said the party remained open to people willing to join its ranks.
The Obanliku visit marked the conclusion of the PDP’s consultation tour of the nine local government areas in Cross River North Senatorial District.
The exercise had taken Archibong and the party leadership to communities across the senatorial district as part of preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
