As the deadline set for political appointees intending to contest elective offices in the 2027 general elections draws closer, a wave of resignations has begun sweeping through the Katsina State Government.

Among the early high-profile exits is the Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Hamza Sulaiman Faskari, who on Tuesday formally submitted his resignation to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari.

Speaking shortly after submitting his resignation letter, Faskari said his decision was driven by his ambition to contest the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Funtua Senatorial District seat, adding that the move followed widespread calls from his constituents.

“I am resigning to contest a senatorial seat in our party primaries, in response to the call of our people in the senatorial district,” he said. “I want to assure everyone that my loyalty to Governor Dikko Radda remains unwavering, and I will continue to respect all directives of the government.”

Also reported to have stepped down is the Special Adviser to the Governor on Narcotics and Human Trafficking, Malam Shehu Abdu Daura, who is similarly eyeing a senatorial ticket under the APC for the Daura Senatorial District.

He said his resignation was necessary to enable him participate fully in the party’s primary elections, in line with electoral guidelines governing political office holders seeking elective positions.

Sources within the office of the Secretary to the State Government confirmed that several other appointees have also begun submitting their resignation letters in compliance with the directive. According to the sources, the office is currently receiving and documenting the growing list of departures as the deadline approaches.

The ongoing resignations highlight early political realignments within the state ahead of the 2027 elections, as aspirants position themselves for party primaries across various constituencies.
