A 15-year-old boy, Hassan Rilwan, has regained his freedom after spending four months in the captivity of bandits in Zamfara State following an intelligence-led rescue operation by the state Police Command.
Hassan, a resident of Danjibga in Tsafe Local Government Area, was abducted in March while travelling from Danjibga to Bena in Kebbi State. According to the police, armed bandits intercepted the vehicle conveying the passengers at Daki Takwas and whisked them away to a forest hideout.
The Zamfara State Police Command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said sustained operations against bandits forced the criminals to flee with suspected gunshot wounds, abandoning the teenager during the security offensive.
The statement said Hassan was rescued safely, given medical attention and later reunited with his grandmother, Nana Aisha, in Danjibga, bringing an emotional end to months of uncertainty for his family.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Salisu Bello Fago, praised their courage, professionalism and determination in the fight against banditry.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against criminal groups across Zamfara State and urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to support efforts to restore lasting peace and security.
