The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has presented artworks produced by students of the university to the wife of the Cross River State Governor, Bishop (Dr.) Mrs Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, following the recent visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to the institution.
Bassey led members of the university management on a visit to Mrs Otu, during which she acknowledged her role in facilitating the First Lady’s visit to UNICROSS.
Tinubu visited the UNICROSS’ Calabar Campus for the commissioning of the TETFund ICT Experience Centre.
The Vice Chancellor presented the artworks, produced by students of the Department of Visual Arts and Technology, to Mrs Otu during the visit.
Responding, the governor’s wife expressed appreciation for the gifts and commended Bassey for what she described as improvements at the university since her appointment as Vice Chancellor.
Mrs Otu recalled that before Bassey became Vice Chancellor, she had visited the university for a function but was not impressed by what she saw at the time.
She said the changes recorded under the present administration had made her more impressed with the institution.
Mrs Otu, an alumna of the institution’s predecessor, The Polytechnic Calabar, urged the university management to sustain its teamwork and developmental efforts.
Bassey was accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Stella Maris-Okey; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Thomas Ojikpong; Registrar, Dr Catherine Osai; University Librarian, Dr Victoria Iyishu; Prof. Ajibade Babson of the Department of Visual Arts and Technology; and Acting Head of the Department of Visual Arts and Technology, Mrs Emekpe Omong, among other officials.
