The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested six suspected vandals accused of stealing railway materials in Kiru Local Government Area.
State Commandant Mohammed Hassan Agalama disclosed the arrests during a press briefing in Kano on Wednesday, attributing the breakthrough to credible intelligence and sustained surveillance.
He described the crime as economic sabotage capable of undermining public safety and national development.
The suspects, all said to be indigenes of Kaduna State, were identified as Sulaiman Salisu, Musa Aliyu Harisu, Ishaq Alhassan, Isa Aminu, Sadiq Bala and Mansur Idris.
Items recovered from them include vandalised railway slippers, 60 nuts and tools allegedly used in the operation, such as gas cylinders and hoses.
Preliminary investigations, according to the NSCDC, indicate that the suspects intended to sell the stolen materials for personal gain.
Agalama reiterated that safeguarding critical national assets remains a core mandate of the Corps, warning that acts of vandalism will attract stiff legal consequences.
He added that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
