A 34 year old man in Ikom LGA of Cross River State, Ukong Abraham was arrested yesterday for unlawful possession of pistol and related offences.
The public relations officer at the state police command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, confirmed the arrest.
Yesterday, a 60 year old man, named, Okon William was earlier arrested in Odukpani LGA for fabricating firearms and selling them.
Akata said the arrest of the suspect followed a report lodged on 15th April 2026 by a 22 year old Delight Benjamin, who alleged that the suspect assaulted her, causing bodily harm.
“Acting promptly on the complaint, detectives from the Ikom Police Division mobilized to invite the suspect for questioning.
“However, upon sighting the police team, the suspect fled in an attempt to evade arrest.”
Akata explained that a coordinated and intelligence-driven operation was mounted leading to his arrest.
He said during interrogation session it led to the recovery of a locally made pistol in his possession.
The PRO disclosed that the suspect was currently in their custody, while investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of his activities and any possible links to other criminal acts.
