The Cross River State Police Command has withdrawn an earlier claim linking a Sea Express boat to the kidnap of 15 passengers on the Calabar waterways about three weeks ago.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the command admitted that the reference to the transport firm in its previous communication was made in error.
“The said vessel was not operated by Sea Express, as previously indicated,” the statement clarified.
The command expressed regret over the mix-up, stressing the importance of accuracy in public communication.
“We acknowledge the importance of accuracy in public communication and sincerely regret any confusion this may have caused,” the statement added.
Police authorities further assured residents that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to the command, security operations are being carried out in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and the Nigerian Navy.
The police reiterated their commitment to providing timely and verified information to the public as investigations continue into the waterways abduction incident.
