Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has inaugurated the International Governor’s Golf Cup, an initiative aimed at placing the state on the international golf map while opening up opportunities in sports, tourism, investment and networking.
The tournament is the first of its kind in the state and is expected to attract attention beyond Cross River, with organisers projecting it as a platform to showcase the state’s sporting potential, tourism assets and hospitality to an international audience.
The Governor’s Golf Cup is also expected to provide opportunities for interaction among golfers, business leaders, investors, government officials and other stakeholders, potentially creating new avenues for investment and economic partnerships.
To drive the tournament, a Local Organising Committee comprising professionals from the Cross River State Government, the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGA of Nigeria) and the Calabar Golf Club has been constituted.
The committee is expected to combine technical expertise and organisational experience to deliver what organisers described as a world-class tournament.
As part of the constitution of the committee, Governor Otu’s Special Adviser on Electronic Media, MumZoe Imani Odey, has been appointed a member of the Local Organising Committee.
Her appointment, according to the organisers, reflects the administration’s confidence in professionals considered capable of contributing to the success and visibility of major state initiatives.
The tournament is expected to further strengthen Cross River’s profile as a destination for sports, tourism and investment, while showcasing the state’s capacity to host international sporting events.
With professionals from government, the PGA of Nigeria and the Calabar Golf Club involved in its organisation, expectations are high that the Governor’s Golf Cup will become a major sporting and tourism event for the state.
