A mob has lynched a man in Nanguru village, Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, after he allegedly killed his father’s former wife.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when the suspect, identified as Ubaido Tanimu, reportedly attacked and killed the woman during a visit to the village.
A resident, Habibu Bello, told reporters that the victim, who hailed from Tella town, had separated from Tanimu’s father several years ago and relocated to her family home in Tella.
According to the source, the woman had returned to Nanguru to attend a marriage ceremony when the suspect allegedly carried out an earlier threat to kill her should she ever set foot in the village.
It was gathered that Tanimu monitored her movements, followed her to the venue of the ceremony and attacked her.
After the killing, the suspect reportedly fled to Garwa, a neighbouring village, to evade arrest.
However, youths from Nanguru village, joined by relatives of the deceased woman, later mobilised, traced him to his hideout and brought him back to his father’s house, where he was lynched.
The body of the woman was subsequently taken to Tella, where she was buried on Wednesday evening.
Sources said no arrests have so far been made in connection with the mob action, adding that many youths in the area had deserted the village.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Command, ASP Victor Mshelizah, said the command was aware and investigations were ongoing.
