The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspect over the circulation of alleged inflammatory audio and video clips capable of inciting public disorder and creating fear among residents.

Police said the arrest followed a sting operation after the clips began circulating widely, triggering security concerns within the state.

At a joint press briefing at the command headquarters in Kano, officials warned individuals involved in the creation and dissemination of such content to desist, stressing that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

The police said the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation and would be prosecuted if found culpable at the end of investigations.

“The Kano State Police Command intercepted reports of circulating audio and video clips containing statements capable of inciting public disorder and creating fear among residents,” the command said.

Also speaking, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the government was aware of rumours on social media about alleged plans to disrupt commercial and economic activities in the state.

Waiya described the reports as misleading narratives aimed at creating panic, adding that the government was working closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to counter the spread of fake news and misinformation.

He assured residents that the state government remained committed to protecting lives and property, noting that peace and stability were critical to sustaining Kano’s position as a major commercial hub in northern Nigeria.
