A 54-year-old officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, serving at the Mfum International Border in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State, Prince Etteng Ise, has died in a lone motor accident.
The fatal crash occurred at about 2:56 p.m. yesterday along the Ikom-Calabar Federal Highway, near Alesi Village in Ikom LGA.
The Cross River State Police Command, in its preliminary report on the incident, said the deceased reportedly lost control of his vehicle while attempting to avoid a pothole.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the vehicle veered off the road into the bush and crashed into a tree.
He said the victim was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
His remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary, the PPRO added.
The Police Command expressed regret over the incident and commiserated with the deceased’s family, colleagues and the Nigeria Customs Service.
The Command also advised motorists to exercise caution, avoid excessive speed and remain vigilant while driving, particularly along accident-prone sections of the highway.
