Coco-Bassey Dumps PDP for ADC Coalition

Dr. Mkpang Coco-Bassey, a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 Cross River election, has resigned his membership of the party.
Coco-Bassey, regarded as an influential political figure in the state, confirmed his exit and signalled his next move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition.
Speaking on his political future, he said his decision is driven by a desire to align with leaders such as Peter Obi and others in the ADC coalition to “serve Nigeria and rescue Cross Riverians.”
He said the coalition is focused on implementing “actionable economic policies” that will shift the economy from consumption to production and ease the current hardship faced by citizens.
In a resignation letter dated March 12, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 11 in Calabar South Local Government Area, Coco-Bassey formally notified the party of his decision.
“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the PDP, Ward 11, Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State,” he stated.
He described the decision as difficult, noting that he had been a committed member who contributed his time, energy, and resources to the party’s growth at ward and local levels.
The former aspirant added that he valued the relationships and experiences gained during his time in the PDP.
The letter, copied to the state chairman of the party, stated that his resignation takes immediate effect, while expressing appreciation for the opportunities he enjoyed and wishing the PDP well in its future endeavours.
