The Cross River State Deputy Governor, Peter Odey, was not involved in the automobile accident that occurred along Yakurr axis on Sunday, the Office of the Deputy Governor has said.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Deputy Governor’s Press Secretary, Fred Abua, the incident involved a Government House press bus in Odey’s convoy while returning from Northern Cross River.
Abua said the convoy was returning from a stakeholder engagement on the proposed concession of the Obudu Ranch Resort when the driver of the Toyota Hiace bus lost control and crashed into barricades at an Army checkpoint in Yakurr Local Government Area.
He said no other vehicle was involved and no death was recorded, while some occupants of the bus sustained minor injuries.
The injured persons were evacuated from the scene and taken for medical attention, according to the statement, which added that all staff in the vehicle were in stable condition and had resumed work.
The statement also clarified that the vehicle involved was a Toyota Hiace purchased new in 2024.
Abua said Odey was not in the vehicle involved in the incident and continued his journey to Calabar safely.
He urged members of the public to disregard reports suggesting that the Deputy Governor was involved in the accident and rely on official information from the state government.
