The Katsina State Government has disbursed over N328 million in allowances to 650 medical students studying in accredited universities across Nigeria and abroad under Phase I of the 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme.
The initiative, approved by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, is targeted at students pursuing medicine and other health-related courses as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare manpower development in the state.
General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Muhammad Nazir Shehu, said the beneficiaries are drawn from 33 accredited universities within and outside the country.
According to him, a total of N328,123,392.35 was released to ease the financial burden on students and enable them to focus on their academic and professional training.
In a statement issued by the Secretary of the Board, Abu Usman, the government described the scheme as a strategic intervention designed to produce a competent and service-driven healthcare workforce for Katsina State.
The statement noted that the Radda administration remains committed to investing in the education and development of medical personnel capable of addressing the growing healthcare demands of the state.
“This is a strategic investment by the State Government to build a competent, resilient and service-oriented healthcare workforce capable of meeting the evolving health needs of Katsina State and the nation,” Dr. Shehu stated.
He urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the support by remaining committed to their studies while maintaining professionalism and ethical standards throughout their training.
The Board further disclosed that the payment marks the successful completion of Phase I of the 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme, with additional phases expected in the coming months.
