Police Suspect Wandering Child Was Abandoned

Nigeria Police Force Cross River State command thinks that the male child, age about four, found wandering within the premises of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Akim, Calabar may have been abandoned by his parents.
They said the child was brought to them by a security guard who works in the church.
In a statement signed by the PPRO, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, they said that efforts to obtain useful information from the child proved unsuccessful, as he could neither state his name, address, nor identify his parents or guardians.
They stated that “Preliminary findings suggest that the child may have either been abandoned or lost his way.”
Their statement indicated that
“the yet-to-be-identified child was found on Monday, 6th April 2026, at about 0830hrs within the premises of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Akim.
“The child was brought to the Police by a security guard attached to the church after he was discovered wandering within the premises.
“The child is currently in protective custody at Akim Police Station, where adequate care and safety measures have been put in place pending identification.”
The police appealed to members of the public who may have information regarding any missing child, or who can assist in identifying the child or locating his parents/guardians, to report to Akim Police Station or contact the DPO at 08067339179, PPRO 07067977330 or the nearest police station.
They assured the public of its continued commitment to the protection of lives and property, particularly vulnerable members of society.
