Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued a nursing mother and her six-month-old baby after they were abducted by suspected bandits in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The victims, identified as Mrs. Idowu Kemi Titilayo and her infant child, were among five members of a family kidnapped during an attack on the Ijalu area of Egbe, near Solid Rock School, on Wednesday night.
The assailants reportedly stormed the community at about 8 p.m. on June 3, 2026, abducting the nursing mother, her baby and three other family members before fleeing into nearby forests.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, said troops responded swiftly after receiving a distress call.
According to him, soldiers immediately mobilised and joined forces with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to pursue the kidnappers along their escape route.
He said the sustained pressure mounted by the combined security team forced the criminals to abandon Mrs. Titilayo and her six-month-old child near the Oro axis before escaping into the surrounding area.
“The terrorists were compelled to flee, leaving behind the nursing mother and her infant as troops and vigilantes closed in on them,” Abdullahi stated.
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their family, while security operatives have intensified efforts to rescue the remaining abductees and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The Army spokesman reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.
