The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Saturday held a closed-door meeting with the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, at the historic Emir’s Palace in Kano.
The visit, which was described as a courtesy call, took place amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A member of the Kano Emirate media team, who confirmed the meeting but requested anonymity, said the details of the discussions were not disclosed.
“It is true that the APC national chairman visited the Emir on Saturday where they had a closed-door meeting together, but the content of their meeting has not been made known,” the source said.
Neither the APC chairman nor the Kano Emirate issued details of what was discussed during the meeting as of the time of filing this report.
The meeting, however, comes as political parties intensify engagements with traditional institutions and influential stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has expressed support for some economic measures introduced by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, including the removal of fuel subsidy.
The Emir has also criticised aspects of the administration’s economic policies on several occasions, arguing that some of the measures have not delivered the expected relief to Nigerians.
Known for his outspoken views on governance, economic reforms and public policy, Sanusi remains an influential voice in northern Nigeria, making meetings between him and political leaders closely watched.
Kano, one of Nigeria’s most politically significant states, is traditionally regarded as a key battleground for parties seeking electoral advantage, particularly in presidential contests.
