The Coalition of Professionals, CoP, has expressed concern over what it considers a ‘sustained political witch-hunt’ and harassment of their principal, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai – the former governor of Kaduna State.

In their communique issued at the end of their meeting held in Calabar, the group frowned at the alleged invasion of privacy of el-Rufai.

They said that they view the developments with utmost seriousness and patriotic responsibility.

“While we acknowledge that in a constitutional democracy every citizen is subject to the rule of law, we equally affirm that every citizen regardless of political affiliation, status, or public standing is entitled to dignity, fairness, and the full protection guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The Coalition is particularly concerned about the implications of politically charged actions capable of eroding public confidence in democratic institutions and weakening the credibility of due process.”

They reiterated their unwavering commitment to the supremacy of Nigeria’s Constitution and the independence of the judiciary.

They stressed the need for justice to be done regarding the plight of their principal, saying they are observing with keen interest and patience how the judicial process will unfold.

“We respectfully call on all relevant institutions to ensure fair, transparent, and impartial judicial process as well as respect for the fundamental human rights of our Principal.

“We urge that all legal proceedings be conducted without political bias, intimidation, coercion, or undue influence from any quarter.”

The group stated that they were not opposed to any lawful investigation of their principal carried out within the framework of justice and fairness.
