Kogi Govt Closes Markets and Motor Parks Amid Security Crackdown

The Kogi State Government has ordered the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks in the state’s western district as part of intensified security operations.

State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, told newsmen in Lokoja on Sunday that the move aims to flush out terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements operating in the region.

“The temporary closures are designed to cut off logistics, restrict the movement of goods, and deny criminal networks access to food supplies and other support,” Fanwo said.

He explained that the directive affects communities across seven local government areas—Lokoja, Kogi, Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa Muro, Yagba West, and Yagba East. The closures will remain in effect for the duration of the security operations, which are being conducted in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and heads of state security agencies.

The state government emphasized that the measure is strictly temporary and will be lifted once operations are successfully concluded.

This follows the state’s earlier decision on February 4, 2026, to close all primary and secondary schools statewide to safeguard lives and property amid rising security concerns.
