Muslim Leader Who Saved 262 Christians Dies

Imam Abubakar Abdullahi, a revered Muslim leader known for saving 262 Christians from death during a community clash snd religious riot in Plateau State, has died at the age of 90.
Saleh Abubakar, one of his sons, confirmed that the Imam passed away yesterday at Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos.
“He died ten days after he was admitted,” Saleh said. “He was initially diagnosed with a heart condition and had regular check-ups, but his health had been unstable for some time.”
A herder and community leader from Nghar village in Barkin Ladi local government area, Abdullahi is survived by 19 children—12 sons and seven daughters.
In June 2018, during deadly communal clashes that swept through 10 villages in Barkin Ladi, Imam Abdullahi courageously hid 262 Christians in his mosque and home, protecting them from possible annihilation.
His bravery earned him several accolades, including the International Religious Freedom Award from the U.S. Department of State in 2019.
The late Imam Abdullahi is remembered as a unifying figure who bridged faith divides in his community.
Funeral rites are scheduled to take place today following Jumma’at prayers in Nghar village.
