Nigerian Imams Launch Nationwide Prayers For Peace

Muslim leaders in northern Nigeria, led by the Association of Nigerian Imams, have launched a nationwide prayer initiative, seeking divine intervention over the country’s escalating insecurity.
The clerics gathered on Thursday at the Sheikh Ahmadu Tijjani Mosque in Kano for a National Congregational Prayer, drawing Imams, religious leaders and worshippers from across the state and neighbouring areas.
The prayer session focused on Nigeria’s growing security and socio-political challenges, with participants calling on Almighty Allah to restore peace and stability.
National President of the Association, Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Adam, said the initiative was borne out of deep concern over the worsening state of insecurity across the country.
“We resolved to recite the entire Qur’an and collectively seek Allah’s intervention in the security crisis confronting Nigeria,” Sheikh Adam said.
He noted that the country continues to battle insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other emerging violent threats, describing prayer as a powerful and necessary response.
“From Boko Haram and Lakurawa to bandits and kidnappers, these are difficult realities. Prayer remains our strongest weapon, and we are also praying against external forces seeking to destabilise our nation,” he added.
Sheikh Adam described Nigeria as a nation richly endowed with human and natural resources, urging citizens to embrace humility, unity and faith in confronting adversity.
He said the prayer initiative, which began in Kano, would be replicated across all 36 states, with Imams, traditional rulers and civil society groups expected to participate.
