The Kano State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of the brutal killing of a family of seven in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano metropolis.

Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, told BANNERNEWS that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident, which occurred on Friday.

He said the police chief directed that the assailants, who are still at large, must be tracked down and brought to justice.

According to Kiyawa, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command has already commenced a detailed probe aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the attack.

“The command extends its condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Dorayi Chiranchi. Investigation has begun in earnest, and justice will be served,” he said.

The victims were identified as Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children: Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam, aged about one and a half years.

They were reportedly attacked in their residence by hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons, who broke into the house and assaulted the occupants.

Residents described the incident as one of the most shocking crimes to have occurred in the area in recent times, throwing the community into mourning.

A resident, Hassan Shehu, said the killings had left the neighbourhood devastated and confused. “We are still in shock. Nobody understands why an entire household would be wiped out like this,” he said.

He added that the bodies were evacuated to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead, as police intensify efforts to apprehend the culprits.
