Security operatives, in collaboration with the Kebbi State Police Command, have killed a suspected member of the Lakurawa terrorist group and foiled an attack in Bunza Local Government Area.

The group had earlier attacked Tungan Babu Lada village, killing Usman Ferungu, 35, before security forces arrived on the scene, according to SP Bashir Usman, the police public relations officer.

As the assailants attempted to flee with rustled cattle, a joint security team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kangiwa division intercepted them at Garin Mayo Village, triggering a gun duel.

“One of the suspected bandits was neutralized, and four motorcycles used by the criminals were recovered,” SP Usman said, adding that the operation disrupted the bandits’ network.

The police stressed that the swift intervention prevented further escalation and additional loss of lives in the area.

Residents of Bunza and nearby villages were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security authorities.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to track and apprehend other members of the terrorist group.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the commitment of security agencies to protecting lives and property, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance against terrorism and banditry in Kebbi State.
