The Commandant of Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS, Victory, Shuaib Ahmed, has urged Governor Bassey Otu to support the upgrade of naval infrastructure and communication systems to enhance service delivery in Cross River State.
Ahmed made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the governor at Government House, Calabar, stressing that evolving security challenges require improved operational capacity.
He noted that strengthening key naval facilities and communication networks would significantly boost the Navy’s ability to tackle both legal and illegal activities within the state’s maritime domain.
“Enhanced infrastructure and communication systems will improve our response time and operational efficiency,” he said.
The commandant, who recently assumed office, said the visit was in line with military tradition and aimed at aligning the Navy’s operations with the security priorities of the state government.
He commended the state government for its continued support, noting that the collaboration has improved the Navy’s effectiveness in safeguarding the waterways.
Responding, Governor Otu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening partnership with the Nigerian Navy to sustain peace and security.
The governor described security as the foundation for development, assuring that the state would continue to support security agencies within available resources.
He also pledged to give due consideration to the issues raised, noting that enhanced collaboration would further strengthen safety across the state.
Otu commended the Navy for its professionalism and role in curbing criminal activities, particularly within the maritime corridors.
He expressed confidence that sustained synergy between the state and the Navy would deliver a safer and more secure Cross River.
