Two Die in Bayelsa Crash En Route Late Deputy Governor’s Burial

Two persons travelling to the burial of the late Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, lost their lives in a road accident on Friday along the Toru-Orua axis of the Sagbama/Ekeremor Road.
Residents said the accident occurred when an 18-seater bus conveying mourners to Ofoni community in Sagbama Local Government Area collided with another vehicle.
The crash reportedly resulted in the instant death of two passengers, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, said the injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are currently receiving emergency medical care.
Also confirming the accident, the Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Muhammad, said police were aware of the crash but had not yet received official confirmation of the fatalities.
He added that the Commissioner of Police had deployed officers to the scene to carry out rescue operations and restore law and order.
The late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, reportedly collapsed and died on December 11, 2025, and was laid to rest on Friday at his hometown, Ofoni community, in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
