Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has appointed Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The appointment was announced on Thursday in Port Harcourt in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.
Wokoma replaces Dr Benibo Anabraba, who was appointed shortly after Governor Fubara resumed office following the expiration of the six-month emergency rule in the state.
According to the statement, the new SSG will be sworn in today at 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.
In a related development, Governor Fubara also relieved his longtime political ally and former factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Edison Ehi, of his position as Chief of Staff.
Barrister Sunny Ewule has been named as Ehi’s replacement and will be sworn in alongside the new SSG.
Ehi had served as Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly at the inception of the Fubara administration and gained prominence during the 2023 political crisis when he declined to support moves to impeach the governor.
He subsequently led a four-member faction of lawmakers that formed a parallel Assembly and declared the seats of 27 legislators allegedly defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) vacant.
Following the initial intervention by President Bola Tinubu in the political dispute between Governor Fubara and former governor Nyesom Wike, Ehi resigned from the Assembly and was later appointed Chief of Staff.
The governor’s spokesman stated that both new appointments take immediate effect, adding that the swearing-in ceremony will hold at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
