The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba community that left several persons dead and others injured.

The curfew, announced in a statement on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, is to take effect from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026.

Government said the decision was taken in conjunction with security agencies to restore calm after the “barbaric and unprovoked attack” on innocent residents of Gari Ya Waye in Angwan Rukuba.

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the killings and assured that security operatives had been mobilised to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Residents were urged to remain calm, stay vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the University of Jos has suspended all examinations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday following rising tension in the state capital.

In a statement signed by Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, the institution directed students and staff to remain indoors and exercise caution in their movements.

The university said the decision followed the late evening attack on Angwan Rukuba, an area that accommodates many of its staff and students, noting that the situation had generated widespread fear across the city.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers, who reportedly arrived on motorcycles around 7:30 p.m., opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic as residents fled for safety.

The violence reportedly triggered reprisals, with irate youths blocking roads and attacking motorcycle riders and passengers in the aftermath of the incident.

University authorities said they were liaising with relevant security agencies and monitoring developments, assuring that further updates would be communicated as the situation evolves.
