The race for the Obubra/Etung Federal House of Representatives seat gathered momentum as aspirant, Dr Obah Edom Tawo, paid a courtesy visit to the Kwididen and Clan Head of Adun Kingdom in Obubra Local Government Area, HRM Patrick Erong, to seek royal blessings ahead of the election process.
The visit, rich in tradition and community engagement, marked what many described as the formal beginning of Dr Tawo’s political consultations as he seeks to represent the people at the National Assembly.
Receiving the delegation, the Clan Head expressed surprise at the aspirant’s early visit, describing it as a sign of seriousness and commitment to the people.
He noted that the journey ahead would be challenging, especially as Dr Tawo is contesting from the opposition, but offered prayers for strength, wisdom and resilience to enable him navigate the political terrain successfully.
The royal father stressed that leadership must rise above divisions, insisting that the people are more concerned about performance and accountability than place of origin or political affiliation.

He lamented the recurring pattern of elected representatives abandoning their constituents after winning office and urged Dr Tawo to chart a different course by remaining accessible to the people.
According to him, the Obubra Traditional Brothers Council is committed to supporting credible leadership that prioritises the welfare of the people and ensures inclusive governance, particularly for communities that have long felt excluded from decision-making.
Responding, Dr Tawo described the visit as a necessary first step in his consultations, acknowledging the critical role of traditional institutions in shaping the direction of the community.
He pledged to sustain close ties with the kingdom and promised that, if elected, his representation would focus on the needs of youths, women and children, anchored on accessibility, accountability and constant engagement.
Other community chiefs present also offered prayers and words of encouragement, urging him to remain steadfast, uphold integrity and remember the expectations of the people as he pursues the mandate.
The visit ended with formal prayers and blessings from the Clan Head, who assured Dr Tawo of spiritual support and urged him to remain focused throughout the electoral process. Visibly moved, the aspirant said receiving the royal blessing was the main purpose of the visit and pledged to return for continued engagement with the people.
