The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ordered the arrest and orderly room trial of four police officers accused of abandoning their duty posts and allegedly extorting the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), in Abuja.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, announced the disciplinary action on Monday, saying the officers were immediately taken into custody after the Command received a complaint over the incident.
He said preliminary findings revealed that the officers left their assigned duty posts on July 11, 2026, and mounted an unauthorised traffic checkpoint at Banex Plaza Junction in Wuse II, where they allegedly stopped a motorist for an alleged traffic violation and collected ₦53,000 from him.
According to the police commissioner, the motorist was later identified as the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).
The officers facing disciplinary action are ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel.
CP Sanusi said the Command had commenced orderly room proceedings against the officers in line with police regulations for abandoning their lawful duty posts, engaging in unauthorised traffic enforcement and the alleged extortion.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct, stressing that any officer found guilty of unethical conduct would face appropriate sanctions.
The police commissioner also assured residents of the FCT that the Command would continue to enforce discipline within its ranks while ensuring officers operate strictly within the confines of the law.
