The Cross River State Police Command has renewed its appeal for information to identify a woman found dead in a hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South.
The Command, in an update on the investigation issued on Wednesday, also appealed for information that could assist in locating a male guest who reportedly lodged at the hotel with the deceased.
Police said the woman’s photograph had been released as part of efforts to establish her identity, urging anyone who recognises her or knows her family, associates or whereabouts to contact the Command.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, preliminary investigation showed that the deceased lodged at the hotel alongside a male guest whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to locate the man and establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
It also confirmed that the hotel receptionist on duty when the incident occurred remained in police custody and was assisting investigators with information about the admission of the guests and events preceding the discovery of the deceased.
The Police stressed that the receptionist’s custody did not amount to a determination of guilt, adding that further action would be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, directed investigators to establish the identity of the deceased, determine the circumstances surrounding her death and locate the male guest.
