The Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars (ABAS), a faith-based body of undergraduates and graduates, has commissioned its new secretariat in Calabar and donated exercise books and sanitary pads to students in three secondary schools across the metropolis.
The group, made up largely of students from the University of Calabar, Cross River State University and other higher institutions in the state, carried out the outreach as part of its weeklong annual celebration which began on Monday, April 27, 2026.
Under the Ambo Zone chapter led by Ogochukwu Edidem, ABAS visited Brotherhood Model College, Government Technical College, Mayne Avenue, and Government Secondary School, Idang, all in Calabar South Local Government Area.
More than 500 students benefited from the distribution of exercise books and menstrual pads aimed at encouraging learning and supporting the welfare of female students.
Edidem said the gesture was inspired by the need to give back to younger students despite the fact that members of the association are also students facing their own academic challenges.
According to him, members contributed funds among themselves to procure the materials for the outreach.
“We have been able to visit three schools where we reached over 500 students with our donations. Today’s visitation reflects our commitment to the future of younger students.
“It was more than a journey across schools; it was a meaningful encounter with young minds, bright hopes and limitless potential. Through every interaction, we shared encouragement, and through every gift presented, we extended support, love and belief in their greatness,” he said.
He added that the impact of the outreach would go beyond the day’s event, noting that the smiles, inspiration and bonds created would leave lasting memories for both the students and members of the association.
As part of the celebration, the group also formally commissioned its new secretariat located at No. 34 Ambo Street, Calabar, marking a new phase in its organisational growth and activities.
