The Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Miyyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Wokili Madugu, has died in a road accident along the Lambata-Izom Road in Niger State.
Madugu was reportedly killed on Saturday when a trailer rammed into a pothole and overturned onto a commercial vehicle he was travelling in around Malam-Karo village, near Maje.
The FCT MACBAN spokesperson, Alhaji Ahmed Dahiru, confirmed the incident to BANNERNEWS by telephone on Sunday.
According to Dahiru, the accident occurred at about 4:38pm, with the MACBAN chairman trapped and killed instantly after the trailer fell on the vehicle.
He said he could not immediately ascertain the number of other victims involved in the crash.
Dahiru said officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sabon-Wuse Unit Command, evacuated the deceased’s remains in an ambulance to his residence in Gwako village, Gwagwalada Area Council, on Saturday night.
He added that Madugu was subsequently buried at his Gwako residence, with the national Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Usman Gazarma; former FCT MACBAN chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Isah; and chairmen of the association’s six area council chapters in attendance.
Also present at the funeral prayers were the Aguma of Gwagwalada, HRH Alhaji Muhammad Magaji; Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Kasim Mohammed Ikwa; and Ardos representing Fulani communities across the FCT.
Reacting to the death, Ikwa condoled with Madugu’s family and the Fulani community in Gwagwalada Area Council, describing the development as painful and shocking.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mohammed Isah Hassan, the council chairman described the late MACBAN leader as an honest and gentlemanly person and prayed for the repose of his soul and strength for his family to bear the loss.
Madugu’s last known public engagement was an emergency security meeting convened by Ikwa about two weeks ago following clashes between farmers and herders in Paiko, Ibwa and Gurfata communities in Gwagwalada Area Council.
