Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted an All Progressives Congress (APC) youth leader in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Arome Adaji, and his wife, Justina, from their residence.

The victims were reportedly taken away at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday when the armed men stormed their home along Ajegwuna Road in Abocho, Ogbabede Ward.

A resident, who identified himself simply as Ndamodu, said the gunmen fired several shots upon arriving in the area, forcing residents to remain indoors for fear of being hit by stray bullets.

He said Adaji, popularly known as Iron Gate, and his wife were at home when the attackers struck.

According to him, residents only came out after the gunmen had left and discovered that the couple had been abducted.

A community leader, Surveyor Agono Eneogba, said the attacks on residents in the area had persisted despite security surveillance along roads in parts of Kogi East.

He said the suspected kidnappers appeared to have shifted their operations to homes, farms and farm settlements, where they abduct residents.

Eneogba recalled that a woman and her four children were abducted weeks ago while returning from a burial ceremony in the community. The family members were reportedly released after a ransom was paid.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, responded with the word “noted” but did not provide further details on the latest abduction.
