The National President of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Alumni Association, Dr Peter Iyali, has congratulated Governor Bassey Otu, Dr Beta Edu and Minister of State for Industry, John Owan Enoh, on their appointments to key positions in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
Iyali, in separate statements, said the appointments reflected the confidence placed in the three Cross River indigenes by the APC leadership as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Governor Otu was appointed South-South Coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, a position that places him in charge of coordinating the party’s presidential campaign activities across the geopolitical zone.

Reacting to the appointment, Iyali said Otu’s selection was significant given the political importance of the South-South and the responsibilities attached to coordinating the region’s campaign structure.
He said the appointment would require coordination across the six South-South states and effective engagement with party structures ahead of the election.
Iyali also congratulated Dr Beta Edu on her appointment as Director of Women Mobilisation for the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
He described the appointment as an opportunity for Edu to contribute to the party’s campaign efforts, particularly in mobilising women voters across the country.
According to him, the new responsibility comes after Edu’s earlier service as a minister in the Federal Government and provides another platform for her to participate in national political activities.

The alumni president also commended the appointment of Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of State for Industry in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment, as head of the Manufacturing and MSME Sector Mobilisation Directorate of the campaign council.
Iyali recalled that Enoh was the first serving senator from Cross River State to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, saying his decision contributed to the development of the party’s structure in the state.

He also cited Enoh’s current ministerial responsibilities in the industrial and MSME sectors, noting that the senator’s new campaign assignment would draw on his experience in government and engagement with businesses and entrepreneurs.
Iyali said the appointments of Otu, Edu and Enoh had further increased the number of Cross River indigenes occupying strategic positions in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, urging them to use their respective positions to contribute to the party’s campaign organisation and mobilisation.
