The Chief of Mutumbiyu in Taraba State, Justice (Rtd) Sani Muhammed Duna, has urged farmers in his domain to commence early planting as the rainy season approaches.

The monarch gave the advice in his Eid-el-Fitr message when subjects paid him Sallah homage at his palace in Mutumbiyu, headquarters of Gassol Local Government Area.

He said forecasts by meteorological authorities indicated the likelihood of reduced rainfall this year, making early planting critical for improved yields.

Justice Duna noted that about 98 per cent of his subjects are farmers, stressing the need for them to act promptly and adopt early-maturing crops to mitigate possible losses.

He warned that delayed planting could have adverse consequences on food production and livelihoods in the chiefdom.

On security, the monarch commended security agencies, hunters and vigilantes for their efforts in tackling threats in the area, while condemning local collaborators aiding criminal elements.

He said the security committee set up by Governor Agbu Kefas was working to identify and expose those aiding banditry across the state, warning that culprits would face the law.

Meanwhile, in Sokoto State, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has called on Muslims to sustain the spirit of charity exhibited during Ramadan by continuing to support internally displaced persons (IDPs).

In his Eid-el-Fitr message, the governor urged wealthy individuals to extend assistance to vulnerable groups beyond the fasting period, noting that Islam emphasises care for the less privileged.

He highlighted the plight of IDPs displaced by banditry, particularly in eastern Sokoto, stressing the need for sustained support from both government and citizens.

Aliyu said his administration had taken steps to improve conditions in IDP camps, including the construction of 100 houses in Illela Local Government Area, with plans for additional housing projects.

He added that the government had continued to provide food, relief materials and financial support to vulnerable groups, while urging residents to support his administration and pray for peace and stability in the state and the country.
