Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have disrupted a suspected terrorist logistics network in Kogi State, arresting couriers and recovering a significant cache of ammunition.

The arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation conducted on April 20, 2026, targeting the movement of suspected logistics operatives within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a statement, said troops mounted a snap checkpoint at Oshokoshoko along the Obajana–Kabba road in Lokoja Local Government Area.

He said the troops intercepted a Toyota bus travelling from Makurdi, Benue State, to Obajana, and subjected it to a thorough search.

According to the statement, two suspects—Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi—were arrested at the scene.

“Troops recovered a sack containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition and three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat,” Abdullahi said.

Other items recovered include two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number slip and an identity card.

The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation and possible prosecution.

In a related operation, the army said troops on March 29 intercepted another suspected courier along the Jamata–Owara road in Lokoja LGA.

The suspect was riding a motorcycle modified with a concealed compartment for transporting ammunition, a method the army said points to evolving tactics by logistics operatives.

Preliminary investigations, according to the statement, linked the suspect to known terrorist elements, leading to follow-up operations and the arrest of a high-profile courier, Mathew Elisha, also known as Nasara, who had been on security watchlists.
