The Nasarawa State Police Command has cautioned political actors against violence and inciting rhetoric as activities gather momentum ahead of party primaries for the 2027 general elections.

Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, issued the warning on Tuesday in Lafia while addressing journalists after a joint security meeting, reaffirming the resolve of security agencies to maintain law and order.

He stressed that while elections remain central to democracy, they must be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere anchored on mutual respect and strict adherence to the rule of law.

Mohammed urged politicians across party lines to avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace, noting that political ambition must not override the sanctity of human life or community stability.

The police boss also charged political leaders to take responsibility for their supporters, warning against violent protests, unlawful rallies, thuggery, and other acts capable of triggering unrest.

He declared that security agencies would not tolerate the sponsorship of violence in any form, vowing that perpetrators would be identified and brought to justice, regardless of status or political affiliation.

Mohammed further cautioned against hate speech, campaigns of calumny, and the spread of misinformation, describing them as threats to democratic stability and public peace.

He advised political parties to comply with regulations guiding rallies and campaigns, including obtaining necessary approvals and respecting the rights of others to participate freely without intimidation.

The commissioner also appealed to youths to resist being used as instruments of violence, urging them to embrace lawful and constructive civic engagement as the electoral process unfolds.
