The Nigeria Police have recorded major breakthroughs in separate operations in Kebbi and Lagos states, leading to the arrest of a suspected double murderer and the rescue of four abducted children.
In Kebbi State, the Police Command arrested a 25-year-old man, Idrisu Musa, for allegedly killing his elder brother, Muhammed Haruna, and the victim’s wife, Habiba, with a cutlass while they were asleep.
The incident occurred at Asarara Village in Kimba District of Jega Local Government Area. Police said the suspect had allegedly threatened the couple with a cutlass on several occasions before the attack that claimed their lives.
Spokesman of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the arrest in a statement, noting that the Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, had directed that the matter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, in Lagos State, detectives attached to the State Police Command rescued four abducted children during a routine patrol operation at Alafia Bus Terminal in the Coker-Orile area of the state.
The operation, carried out late on May 8, followed the discovery of the children in the company of an unidentified woman preparing to board a luxury bus leaving Lagos.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed that the suspected trafficker fled immediately after sighting the patrol team, abandoning the children at the terminal.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the children were allegedly kidnapped from the Ijesha-Tedo area and were being moved out of the state before police intervention foiled the plan.
According to the police, the children were taken into protective custody and later reunited with their families, while investigations continue to track down the fleeing suspect and possible accomplices involved in the alleged trafficking network.
Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, commended the vigilance and professionalism of the officers involved in the rescue operation, reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Lagos State.
He also urged residents, especially parents and guardians, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities involving children to security agencies.
