A South-South campaign group mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election has appealed to Nigerians to give the administration more time to address the country’s economic and developmental challenges.
The group, known as the P-BAT Door-to-Door Movement, made the call during its South-South campaign flag-off, describing its activities as a grassroots effort to educate communities on the policies and projects of the Tinubu administration.
The movement’s Coordinator, Pastor Reuben Wilson, said it was unrealistic to expect any Nigerian president to resolve the country’s problems within three years, arguing that the administration had laid foundations that would require more time to produce the desired results.
Wilson, who was accompanied by the member representing Burutu Federal Constituency of Delta State in the House of Representatives, Julius Ghabojor Pondi, acknowledged that some government policies had caused hardship but urged Nigerians to consider their long-term implications.
He said the South-South region would support Tinubu for another term, citing increased resources available to state governments and ongoing interventions in the Niger Delta and riverine communities.
The campaigners also pointed to the Niger Delta Development Commission and the newly established South-South Development Commission as initiatives that could accelerate development in the region if adequately funded and implemented.
Wilson said the group’s campaign would be conducted through door-to-door engagement, persuasion and public enlightenment rather than coercion, with the aim of securing grassroots support for the President ahead of the 2027 election.
The group further credited its grand patron, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, with creating more than 25,000 jobs through his company, describing such employment opportunities as part of the broader economic benefits they want voters to consider.
The campaigners expressed confidence that Tinubu’s re-election would bring further development to the South-South, particularly riverine communities, urging residents to give the President another four-year mandate to consolidate his policies and projects.
