No Abuja Workers Will Be Victimised Over Strike — NLC

By BANNERNEWS Reporter

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has assured workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that none will be victimised for participating in the recent strike action in Abuja.

Acting NLC Chairman, Benson Upah, said the assurance was part of agreements reached at a conciliatory meeting involving the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, organised labour and the Senate Committee on the FCT.

Upah explained that the meeting resolved the industrial dispute that disrupted activities in the nation’s capital, with all parties agreeing to restore industrial harmony and “sheath their swords.”

He added that all pending cases arising from the dispute at the National Industrial Court (NIC) would be withdrawn immediately as part of the settlement.

According to him, the meeting, convened at the instance of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Mohammed Bomoi, addressed all complaints raised by members of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC).

“The Honourable Minister assured organised labour of mutual respect and sustained engagement going forward,” Upah said, noting that issues presented were taken one after the other and fully resolved.

Consequently, he announced that all workers in the FCT have been directed to resume work with immediate effect.

“All JUAC members and all affiliates of the TUC and NLC working in the Ministry of the FCT are hereby directed to resume work immediately in the interest of industrial peace and harmony,” he said.
