The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned residents of Cross River State to brace for rising temperatures beginning this week, following a forecast of a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country.
In its latest weather outlook covering Monday to Wednesday, the agency said the prevailing conditions are expected to increase daytime temperatures, with attendant thermal discomfort in many parts of the state.
NiMet also forecast the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of the South-South and South-East regions, including Cross River State, during the period under review.
According to the agency, the intermittent cloud cover and sunshine pattern could trigger brief but intense weather changes, especially in coastal and forested areas of the state.
Residents were advised to take precautionary measures against heat stress by wearing light and breathable clothing, staying in well-ventilated environments, and drinking plenty of water to remain hydrated.
NiMet further cautioned that dust particles are currently in suspension in the atmosphere, a condition that may worsen air quality in some locations.
As a result, people with asthma and other respiratory-related ailments were urged to exercise caution and limit exposure to dusty or poorly ventilated environments.
The agency encouraged members of the public in Cross River State to stay informed through official weather updates, noting that adherence to safety advisories would help reduce health risks associated with the prevailing weather conditions.
