All 21 local government area chairmen and 226 councillors in Adamawa State have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The mass defection, which took place on Monday, October 19, 2026, was confirmed by the state APC Publicity Secretary, Victor Dogo.
Dogo said the move was driven by the defectors’ desire to align with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, whom he described as their political godfather.
According to him, the council chairmen, area development administrators and councillors believed their political alignment with the governor would be better served by belonging to the same party.
Some of the council chairmen reportedly submitted resignation letters to their respective PDP ward chairmen, citing personal reasons and consultations with family members and political associates.
In his resignation letter dated October 19, the chairman of Demsa Local Government Area, Akham Jalo, said his decision followed consultations with his family, political associates, stakeholders and residents of the council.
Jalo said joining the APC would enable him to align with Fintiri’s progressive vision and attract more democratic dividends to Demsa.
He expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership for the opportunity to serve and urged his supporters to remain calm and united as they joined the APC.
Meanwhile, political analysts in the state described the mass defection as a pre-planned political move that had finally been executed.
