The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has warned political actors against electoral violence and residents against jungle justice, cultism and drug abuse.
Ordue issued the warning during familiarisation visits to the Ogoja and Ikom Area Commands on October 15 and 16, where he met traditional rulers, youth groups, traders, transport unions and other community stakeholders.
He condemned mob attacks on criminal suspects, stressing that allegations of wrongdoing did not justify assault or killing. He urged residents to hand suspects over to the police for investigation and prosecution.
The commissioner also cautioned political actors and their supporters against violence, intimidation and destruction of property, urging them to pursue their interests within the law.
On youth-related crimes, Ordue urged young people to shun cultism and drug abuse, while calling on families and community leaders to support preventive education and early intervention.
He said the command would continue to promote community-oriented policing and uphold the rule of law across the state.
The statement was issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata.
