Domestic Violence: Police Forward Lawmaker’s Case File to Attorney-General

By BANNERNEWS Reporter

The Nigeria Police in Cross River State have forwarded the case file involving suspended lawmaker representing Obubra State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Ovat Dickson Agbor, to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice for legal advice and further action.

Agbor was last week suspended indefinitely by the Cross River State House of Assembly following allegations that he assaulted his wife, a development that sparked widespread public outrage.

The State Police Command subsequently invited both the lawmaker and his wife for questioning on Monday as part of its ongoing investigation into the incident.

The invitation and interrogation of the parties followed mounting public concern and calls for authorities to address the alleged domestic violence.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the command said discussions with both parties indicated a willingness to resolve their differences.

According to the statement, the engagement with the couple also followed appeals made by the wife regarding the matter.

“The Honourable member has since been released to a reliable surety, while the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney-General for legal advice upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation,” the statement said.

The police command further assured the public that the matter was being handled with professionalism and in line with established legal procedures.

It added that investigations into the case were still ongoing.
