Two sons of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have signalled interest in contesting National Assembly seats in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opening its doors to their ambitions.

The aspirants—Adamu Atiku and Mohammed Atiku Abubakar—are reportedly positioning to run on the platform of the African Democratic Congress as part of broader coalition efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.

Adamu, a former Commissioner for Works and Energy Development under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, is said to be eyeing the Adamawa South Senatorial District seat. His younger brother, Mohammed, a businessman, is targeting the House of Representatives seat for Jada, Ganye, Mayo-Belwa and Toungo Federal Constituency.

Confirming the development in Yola on Thursday, the state chairman of the ADC, Shehu Yohanna, said the party had formally received the duo and would accord them equal opportunity and support like other members.

Yohanna disclosed that Adamu Atiku, who recently resigned from the People’s Democratic Party, has completed his registration with the ADC at his ward in Jada Local Government Area and is set to pursue the senatorial ticket.

He added that Mohammed Atiku Abubakar had registered earlier with the party and would contest for the House of Representatives seat covering Jada, Ganye, Mayo-Belwa and Toungo federal constituency in the 2027 polls.

The ADC chairman emphasised that both aspirants, as Nigerian citizens, are constitutionally entitled to seek elective office, assuring that the party would provide the necessary backing for their political aspirations.

He further revealed that the ADC has recorded about 1.7 million members in Adamawa State through its ongoing e-registration exercise, which began two weeks ago.
