About 1,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The defection occurred on Wednesday when the PDP governorship candidate, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, visited the area as part of his consultation with stakeholders and residents ahead of the 2027 election.
A large crowd gathered in Akpabuyo to receive Archibong and members of his consultation team during the visit.
Receiving the defectors, Archibong described the development as the largest number of people to join the PDP since the commencement of his consultation tour.
He said the decision by the defectors demonstrated that the people had made their choice, adding that their confidence in the party would not be taken for granted.
The PDP candidate also used the occasion to consult with his kinsmen and other stakeholders in the local government as part of his ongoing engagement ahead of the election.
