The Oodua Progressive Women in Politics, Cross River State, have declared support for the re-election bids of Governor Bassey Otu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The group said its decision was informed by what it described as the performances of the two administrations, as well as the inclusion of members of the Yoruba community and other groups in government appointments.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Cross River State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board in Calabar, the group’s Chairman, Ambassador Adejoke Oyeleye, said returning Otu and Tinubu to office would provide an opportunity to consolidate the gains of their first terms.
Oyeleye also announced plans by the organisation to hold a Unity Walk involving sons and daughters of Oodua extraction across the 18 local government areas of Cross River State.
She said the group would also organise the first “Oodua Day Celebration” in Calabar, bringing together Oodua indigenes, non-indigenous communities and government officials to commemorate the event.
Receiving the group, the Chairman of the Cross River State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam Kabir Olowolayemo, described the Oodua Progressive Women as a major socio-political group supporting the re-election of Otu and Tinubu.
Olowolayemo said members of the Yoruba community and other ethnic groups had received government appointments under the present administration. He also pointed to improvements in security, infrastructure and human welfare as some of the administration’s achievements.

He said the improved security situation had enabled residents and businesses to operate with greater confidence, expressing optimism that the group’s support would translate into votes in 2027.
“Optimistic that the solidarity we are declaring today will be translated with our voter cards come 2027,” he said.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Non-Indigenous Affairs, Mazi Okey Maduakwe, described the Oodua Progressive Women as grassroots supporters of the administration who had remained consistent in their backing of Governor Otu.
